Comox Valley Sports Centre reopening fitness facility

We’re just days away from the reopening of the Comox Valley Sports Centre’s fitness facility.

The Comox Valley Regional District said it’s planned for June 15 at 7:00am.

It’s been closed since March 17 to help limit the spread of COVID-19.

The reopening follows the BC Recreation and Parks Association and WorkSafe BC guidelines.

The CVRD will be opening the gym for strength and cardio workouts within Arena 2.

According to the district, moving the facility to Arena 2 ensures the two meter physical distancing requirement and cleaning protocols in accordance with Provincial Guidelines.

“In order to protect the health and safety of users and the staff, please remain home if you are sick or showing any signs of COVID-19,” said general manager of community services, Doug DeMarzo.

“If you cough or sneeze in the facility for allergies or other medical reasons you may be asked to leave immediately.”

Users will be able to reserve 55 minute time slots online through Perfect Mind or by phone to workout Monday through Friday during the operating hours of 7:00am until 2:00pm.

Reservations will be limited to 22 people per time slot and standard drop-in rates will apply.

Account credits may be utilized for this program. Low income subsidies are available by phone only. Refunds will only be available if cancelled 24 hours in advance of your reservation.

“The re-opening of the fitness facility is one small step in making our facilities available for the health and well-being of the community again,” said Sports Commission Chair Daniel Arbour. “We look forward to serving our patrons again and are hopeful more indoor activities will be underway in the months to come, as guidelines are finalized.”
