The Comox Community Centre is about to partially reopen.
The centre begins the first phase of its restart on Monday at 7:00am, with registration for summer recreation programs and new, fitness studio pre-registered admissions.
Summer program information is available here. As well, pre-registered, outdoor Zumba classes start Monday.
Soccer and art camps start June 29th.
Summer day camps and select fitness programs get underway on July 6th.
The Fitness Studio opens next Wednesday, June 24th, weekdays 7:00am to 2:45pm with pre-registered admissions.
According to the Town of Comox, fitness studio pre-registered time slots “ensure the occupancy limit for physical distancing is maintained.”
“A phased reopening keeps the community and customers safe and allows staff to add more services and operating hours as conditions improve and direction from relevant authorities change,” the town added in a release.
These authorities include the province, BC Parks and Recreation Association, provincial health authorities and WorkSafeBC.
Following their recommendations, staff cut down the amount of equipment from the fitness studio to allow physical distancing.
Access is only by pre-registered time slots: 7:00am, 8:30am, 10:00am, 12 noon, or 1:30pm.
Each 75 minute workout is followed by 15 minutes for staff to clean equipment.
Registration will open 48 hours before each time slot. Click here to register and secure a workout.
You’re asked to use online system but phone and in-person registrations at the centre are available Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 3:00pm.
The cost of a fitness studio visit is discounted from the regular drop-in rates.
A full schedule and registration information is available here.
Community Centre fitness passes were frozen March 17, 2020 when the building closed.
If you have a pass, you have the option of a pro-rated credit on your account to use for the new registered time slots, keeping your pass frozen until the centre returns to pre-COVID-19 operations, or receive a pro-rated refund by cheque.
