A Vancouver Island man is facing charges after a lengthy investigation by the Comox Valley RCMP Major Crime Unit.

On April 12th, 2019 at approximately 4:35am the Comox Valley RCMP received a report of a robbery at a business on the 500-block of Ryan Road in Courtenay.

The suspect had his face covered, his hands covered, and was wearing a reflective jacket when he entered the business and demanded money and cigarettes.

The investigation following the robbery included assistance from the Integrated Forensic Identification Section, local businesses who provided surveillance footage, and National Forensic Laboratory Services.

When a suspect is not apprehended right away, our investigators do not give up, they keep looking and they continue to work so charges can be recommended said Cst. Monika Terragni, Comox Valley RCMP Media Relations Officer. It can take days, weeks, or even months, to examine all of the evidence she added.

35-year old James Hutchison has been charged with robbery and is scheduled to appear in court on June 26th.
