Elk Falls suspension bridge to reopen Canada Day

A popular spot in Campbell River is ready to reopen.

BC Hydro says the Elk Falls suspension bridge area and the Millennium Trail will be open to the public starting July 1st.

Given it has around 200,000 visitors annually, the bridge is one of the last recreation areas around town to open back up.

BC Parks and BC Hydro are sending out a reminder to visitors to maintain proper physical distancing, avoid congested areas, travel in small groups, wash or sanitize your hands often, and avoid high touchpoints such as railings and interpretive signs.

“We are excited to fully open these wonderful community amenities up again,” BC Hydro spokesperson Stephen Watson said. “Thank you for helping keep everyone safe and our shared recreation areas open.”

BC Hydro’s Campbell River Hydroelectric Facilities Discovery Centre located beside the Elk Falls suspension bridge parking lot is planned to reopen early next month.

The Canyon View Trail along the Campbell River opened up again on May 14th and has had increasing use.

BC Parks and BC Hydro adds that if there is an increase in COVID-19 cases, the risk of potential closures does exist.
