Comox Valley Child Development Association Autism Program gets boost

The Comox Valley Child Development Association is going to be able to support kids with Autism once again.

It’s receiving $21,000  through the Comox Valley Community Foundation COVID-19 Emergency Response Grant for its Autism program.

The Autism Program (TAP) is one of the few CVCDA programs that rely on service fees to operate and when the pandemic hit, it was forced to begin layoffs in this program.

The CVCDA says thanks to the help from the grant, it will once again able to support the 300 children and youth in the Comox Valley who have been diagnosed with Autism.

The association provides critical developmental support to children with Autism in the community and as recently as two years ago, opened the Comox Valley Autism Centre to expand autism services to families.

The COVID-19 Emergency Response Grants are intended to offer resources to the community where it’s needed most and will support urgent issues, particularly those being experienced disproportionately within vulnerable sectors.

Since the start of the pandemic, over $210,000 has been given out to help Comox Valley organizations.
