Comox Valley Regional District seeking feedback on regional housing needs assessment

The Comox Valley Regional District is starting up a region-wide conversation about housing needs.

Next month it’s hosting a virtual public forum to discuss the results of a recent housing needs assessment that looked at the Comox Valley as a whole.

The CVRD’s Senior Manager of Sustainability and Regional Growth Strategy Planning Alana Mullaly says the district has all the information it needs, but now it wants to hear from residents.

“In addition to collecting data from sources such as Statistics Canada, BC Assessment, the Vancouver Island Real Estate Board and BC Housing, we heard from many community members and organizations about their housing needs in the region”, explains Mullaly.

“Now it’s time for the community to review the findings and start a region-wide conversation about the actions that we need to take to tackle our housing challenges.”

The findings of the work will help meet the district’s number one goal of the Regional Growth Strategy; ‘Ensure diversity of affordable housing options to meet evolving regional demographics and needs.’

Due to COVID-19, the CVRD will be hosting the forum online through Zoom, and if you plan to take part, you have to register ahead of time.

Only 100 people will be allowed in the meeting and a video recap will be posted to the district’s website for those who weren’t able to make it.

The virtual community forum will take place Wednesday, August 12th from 7:00pm until 8:30pm.

More information about the housing needs assessment, and to register for the public forum, can be found on the Comox Valley Regional District’s website
