A mental distress call in Willow Point ended with police having to use a taser.
At around 10:00am yesterday, Cst. Maury Tyre says the Campbell River RCMP were called to the 400 block on Highway 19A after a man was “reported to be suicidal.”
When officers arrived, Tyre says the man barricaded himself in a room while he claimed he was armed.
Tyre says this resulted in a “brief stand-off” that eventually ended with police having to use a taser on the man.
“We were very fortunate that nobody was seriously injured during this event,” Tyre says. “The members on scene handled themselves with a great deal of patience and professionalism in a situation that had very real possibilities of turning tragic.”
Tyre adds that the man was then taken to hospital for treatment.
