Cable ferry coming this summer

BC Ferries says it’s planning to have a new cable ferry running between Buckley Bay and Denman Island by late summer.

VP of Engineering Mark Wilson says they’ll start laying the cables this month, and once the ferry is delivered they’ll start trial runs.

Wilson says a lot of people are excited about the project, which will be the world’s longest cable ferry, but he also acknowledges that some others aren’t too keen on this.

Wilson says it’s an innovative project that’s going to save money.
The BC Ferry and Marine Workers union is among those opposed. They launched a petition to try to get the project stopped, and even went as far as a court challenge.
