There was a fatal crash just north of Courtenay last night.

Courtenay deputy fire chief, Dennis Henderson, said that at about 6:30pm, they were called to a head-on crash at the 5800 block of the North Island Highway, near Kirby Road.

“The incident involved a four-door sedan and a three-ton cube van. The four-door sedan had one occupant and the cube van had two. There was one male who succumbed to his injuries, that was the driver of the sedan,” he added.

The road was closed immediately, to allow a traffic analyst and the RCMP to investigate.

“We were there probably just after 11, 11:30(pm),” Henderson said.

The investigation is ongoing and we have reached out to the Comox Valley RCMP or more details.
