All invited to take part in the Fred Bigelow 100K fundraiser

A new fitness challenge celebrates the life of former Comox Valley Airport CEO Fred Bigelow.

The memorial fundraiser takes place throughout November and challenges you to complete 100 kilometres in the valley.

All proceeds go to Bigelow’s favourite charities of choice: The Cumberland Forest Society and United Riders of Cumberland.

You can register online here

You can run, walk or hike the distance: the key is to get out there and explore.

The courses can be anywhere in the valley, including such places as Deep Bay, Oyster River, Mt.Washington, or Hornby Island.

You’re asked to join a special CVRR Strava club where you will upload each distance you complete, along with photos of your route choice.

At the end of November, the Comox Valley Road Runners will verify your distance by using this app

Everyone who registers and then completes the 100 kilometers or more will receive a hand-stamped metal mantra shoe tag specially designed for this event.

Bigelow was not only well known and respected in the aviation world, but he was also an avid athlete and dedicated member and volunteer with the Road Runners.

He passed away at home in Courtenay on Sept. 1st.
