UPDATED: NDP’s Ronna-Rae Leonard leads Courtenay-Comox riding

The Courtenay-Comox race for MLA is tightening up.

Incumbent NDP candidate Ronna Rae-Leonard has a slight edge over Liberal challenger Brennan Day as election night unfolds.

Brennan Day (BC Liberals) – 1,367

Gillian Anderson (BC Greens) – 1,105

Josie Osborne (NDP) – 5,393

Evan Jolicoeur (BC Greens) – 2,214

Helen Poon (BC Liberals) – 1,742

Graham Hughes (Independent) – 305

Robert Alexander Clarke (Libertarian) – 211

In order to win a majority government, a party needs to win 44 seats, but also has to name a Speaker, so really needs 45 seats.

Overall, the NDP is leading the race with 263,364 votes. The Liberals are second with 208,766 votes while the Greens have 94,766 votes.

The NDP is leading in 55 ridings, the Liberals 29, and the Green Party three.

It may take weeks for all the mail-in and absentee ballots to be certified and counted.
