A total of 108 people in the Comox Valley School District have been told to self isolate because of COVID-19.
The district’s COVID Response Plan includes:
Queneesh Elementary
- One member of the Queneesh school community tested positive for COVID-19.
- Island Health identified three Queneesh staff and 18 students who will be required to
self-isolate for two weeks.
G.P. Vanier Secondary
- Six members of the GP Vanier school community tested positive for COVID-19.
- Island Health identified seven G.P. Vanier staff and 78 students who will be required to self-isolate for two weeks.
Glacier View Secondary Centre
- One member of the Glacier View school community tested positive for COVID-19.
- Two students are required to self-isolate.
In all three situations, school communities were advised by letter from the District and Island Health. School district custodial staff conducted terminal cleaning of each school site.
“While this news of increased cases in the community is disappointing, given all the hard work we have done together over the past year to keep our schools free of this virus, it is also a reality check for us all,” the district said in a letter to parents.
“However, is important to understand that all those who have tested positive did not contract COVID-19 within our school sites. Our well-defined, strict Health and Safety processes have worked efficiently to keep students and staff safe and healthy throughout this pandemic.”
Meanwhile, the district sent a letter to GP Vanier Secondary parents, saying a potential exposure in the school community happened on Feb. 16th and 17th.
The district told parents that Island Health is completing contact tracing to identify any staff or students that need to self-isolate or self-monitor for symptoms.
