Prepare yourself for the “Big One” says PEP

This is National Emergency Preparedness Week, all about raising awareness on the importance of being prepared to go it alone for at least 72 hours in the event of a major emergency.

Regional PEP Coordinator (Provincial Emergency Program) Mike Fornier says a few emergency preparedness workshops are being held today.

Fornier says unfortunately those workshops have been very poorly attended, with mainly an older demographic taking part…

Fornier says valley residents should not rely on 19 Wing Comox to bail themselves out in the event of a major emergency.

Despite a steady stream of several hundred mild earthquakes each year off the BC Coast, and huge quakes around the world, like the recent one in Nepal, Fornier says the region’s residents are clearly not prepared for the “Big One.”
