Bayview Hotel remains closed after ‘extensive water damage’

The management team at Courtenay’s Bayview Hotel are sharing details about an incident that has kept the hotel closed since last weekend.

It happened just before midnight last Saturday at the hotel at 2200 Cliffe Ave., and has forced it to close due to extensive water damage.

Management says a fire suppression sprinkler head was tampered with, and subsequently broken by a hotel guest in the room they rented.

“Unfortunately, this caused extensive water damage to our hotel,” a Bayview release said.

“We are working diligently to safely reopen once the hotel is back to the excellent standards it has been known for. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause anyone.”

The team says staff “have been wonderful during these trying periods and are looking forward to welcoming guests back as soon as possible.”

“We are contacting guests with reservations that we will not be able to honor due to the unfortunate situation, and, where possible, we will be assisting them in finding alternate lodging.”
