Good news for restaurants, coffee shops, breweries and pubs in Comox.
They were given the green light by Comox council this week to continue to use outdoor on-site open spaces and parking areas to increase their seating capacity.
Eight businesses in Comox are currently part of the Temporary Patio and Parklet Program that council introduced in May of 2020.
It was in response to COVID-19 restrictions that called for businesses to reduce indoor seating capacity, or mandated them to stop all indoor dining, which financially impacted the sector.
“The food and beverage businesses in Comox are a key component of our economy and foster an incredible sense of culture and community,” said Mayor Russ Arnott,
“Many Comox businesses have been impacted by the pandemic, including this sector, and it is important to Council that we continue to take steps to do what we can to support them through this recovery period.”
The current extension was set to expire on Oct. 31st, and has now been extended until June 1st, 2022, to provide certainty to the businesses that are currently utilizing the program.
Comox businesses that have accessed the program include Tidal Café, Toscano’s Mediterranean Grill, Griffin Pub, Land and Sea Brewing Co., Smitty’s, New Tradition Brewing Co., Sushi Wara, the Comox Legion Branch 160, Martine’s Bistro, Bamboo Inn, and Church St. Taphouse.
