Habitat VIN to break ground on new affordable housing project in Courtenay

New affordable housing will soon be available in Courtenay for a dozen families.

Habitat for Humanity Vancouver Island North (Habitat VIN) is putting on a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday for their new project at 1375 Piercy Avenue.

The project will consist of three 4-unit townhomes, including two accessible single living units.

Some of the families that will be living in the new housing will be at the event.

Comox Valley singer-songwriter Helen Austin will perform at the ceremony.

Austin has won many awards for her solo music and as part of the folk-pop duo Big Little Lions.

Austin also volunteers at the Habitat for Humanity Comox Valley ReStore.

The event starts at 4:30 pm and is free to attend, but an RSVP is required.
