Courtenay Fire Crews douse early season bush fire

An abandoned campfire, the likely cause of the largest bush fire so far this season in the Comox Valley, with crews responding shortly before 4 p.m. this afternoon.

That from Courtenay Fire Department Deputy Chief Kurt McDonald, who says the South Courtenay blaze broke out near 31st Street, near Walmart.

McDonald cautions everybody to be extra careful with tinder dry conditions out there.

McDonald says there have already been several bush fires in recent weeks in the Comox Valley, saying this is shaping up to be a hot dry summer.
