UPDATED: Police ‘did not unearth anything of concern’ after report of shallow grave

The Powell River RCMP is investigating what’s being described as a “suspicious occurrence” in some bushes just off Padgett Road.

In a statement, RCMP Staff Sgt. Rod Wiebe says police were alerted yesterday, and once they got there, they determined that “the use of a Forensic Specialist was required to further the investigation.”  

Wiebe said the scene was secured pending the arrival of the Forensic Identification Unit from the Comox Valley.  

“Given the weather forecast was calling for rain a tent was set up to preserve any perishable evidence,” he added.
