Work has begun on a new wastewater upgrades project in Cumberland.
The project features refurbishing the current lagoon site and will include adding new buildings, improved instrumentation, and site security.
A reed bed will also be constructed to remove toxins.
“This essential infrastructure project has been years in the making and is critical to our operations today and moving forward,” said Cumberland Mayor Leslie Baird. “Community input has made this a real made in Cumberland solution moving us towards a more sustainable future.”
Trails that enter the site will be rerouted, a fence around the lagoons area will be put up, and trees will be removed this fall.
Most of the work will be completed in 2022, and the project is expected to be finished in 2023.
