Courtenay woman collecting books for Victoria General Hospital

A Courtenay woman is collecting board books for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Victoria General Hospital.

Amber Van Der Mark is looking to expand her book drive, which she started while her son Ephraim was in the hospital.

Van Der Mark was transported to VGH while in labour with Ephraim.

Ephraim was born at 29 weeks and two days weighing 1 lb, 13 oz.

Van Der Mark says Ephraim is now doing well, and he will turn two years old on Nov. 1

While in the NICU at VGH, Van Der Mark was introduced to the Little Warriors Library.

The Little Warriors Library was created by a nurse who has been assembling books to give to parents at the hospital.

The library usually gives away around 30 to 40 books each month.

Van Der Mark collected 206 books for the library last year and is hoping to double that amount in 2021.

She will be collecting new books in all languages from Nov. 1 until Dec. 3.

Van Der Mark will soon be confirming book drop off locations and those interested in donating books can send her an email at [email protected]
