Sentencing proceedings underway in valley hit and run case

In Courtenay court, a sentencing hearing is underway for the teen charged in the September 2013 hit and run that left valley resident Molly Burton in a wheelchair with very serious injuries.

The young offender had earlier pleaded guilty in failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing bodily harm. Burton lay in a ditch for several agonizing hours off of Comox Road after being struck by a vehicle. Goat News spoke with Molly Burton outside the Courtenay Courthouse…

Burton says she is not expecting the accused will be handed a severe sentence.

Burton may have died if it wasn’t for Brody Fullerton, a local man who heard her cries from his boat and eventually tracked her down and called BC Ambulance crews.

Meanwhile no word yet on when the young offender will ultimately be sentenced in the case, proceedings wrapped for today. On Thursday of next week court officials will pinpoint at least another day for sentencing submissions.
