Simplified Remembrance Day events to be held in Comox Valley

There are less Remembrance Day events happening this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but some ceremonies and services are taking place in the Comox Valley Thursday.

A simplified Remembrance Day ceremony will be held at the Comox Cenotaph at 10:45 am.

The Comox Legion is asking attendees to wear masks and practice social distancing.

A part of Comox Avenue will be closed from Port Augusta Street to Church Street from 10:30 am to 11:30 am.

No parking will be allowed in the closed area from 8:00 am until noon.

People will also be able to view a virtual ceremony on the Courtenay Legion’s Facebook page Thursday at 10:45 am.

The event will include the Act of Remembrance, Last Post, and Rouse played by a bugler and a Lament played by a piper.

There will be no parking permitted in Jubilee Square after midnight Wednesday.

The Cumberland Legion is hosting a service Thursday just before 11:00 am.

The legion is inviting residents to remember and thank all who have served and sacrificed for our country at the event.

Dunsmuir Avenue will be closed to traffic from Fourth Street to Fifth Street from 10:30 to to 11:40 am.
