The Comox Valley Robotics71 team took home the win at their first competition of the season.
Two Comox Valley teams competed at Shawnigan Lake School, with the younger team – called 7842P – dubbed the winners of the competition.
The team – with players Zander Hole, Ryan White and Elliott Patterson – made a big comeback after finishing third in the qualifying rounds, taking out senior team 7842X in the finals for the win, according to SD71.
While the senior team lost the finals and tournament, team 7842X – with players Katie Brown, Andrew Phillips, Nicholas Horel and Noah Doeschner-Fretts – took first place in the Robot Skills Challenge along with design and sportsmanship awards.
The teams will play in action on Jan. 15 in the Comox Valley at Highland Secondary School.
Robotics71 is a district-wide after-school robotics program based out of Highland Secondary for students in grades 8 – 12.
The school district says students learn coding, driving skills and teamwork along with foundational skills for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) fields.
