Comox Valley RCMP ‘Boost and Bust’ initiative to continue in 2022

Preventing shoplifting will be a focus of the Comox Valley RCMP’s bike unit for another year.

Police said in a press release Tuesday the “Boost and Bust” bicycle unit will be out and about in the community. Officers partnered with some local businesses at the start of 2021 to catch more shoplifters and prevent dollars from being lost.

They also partnered with loss prevention officers inside stores, according to police, leading to multiple arrests this year. They say on Dec. 15, three people were arrested at one business for shoplifting.

The RCMP says preventing theft will also help keep prices down and workers employed in the valley.

“Throughout the year, people have been caught stealing meat, energy drinks, electronics, muffin tins, and so much more,” said Cst. Monika Terragni, Media Relations Officer, Comox Valley RCMP.

“When stores lose money at the hands of shoplifters, it is often recovered in higher prices or staffing cuts which directly affects residents here in the Comox Valley.”
