City of Courtenay releases official community plan draft

The City of Courtenay’s official community plan (OCP) draft has been released.

The plan is a vision for the community’s future.

The OCP recommends policies on transportation, affordable housing, parks and recreation, infrastructure, parks and recreation, protection of the environment, and food systems.

“Throughout the OCP process we’ve heard from hundreds of residents and friends of Courtenay who care deeply about our community,” said Courtenay Mayor Bob Wells. “We thank all those who have participated in the OCP update process so far and encourage absolutely everyone to take a look at the draft plan and tell us how well it represents your views. If this is the first time you’re hearing about the OCP, that’s okay, now is a great time to get involved. An opportunity like this to influence how Courtenay grows generally happens no more than once a decade.”

Courtenay city council has intended to make the plan climate-friendly and place principles of equity, community well-being, and reconciliation into the plan.

People can provide feedback about the plan with an online survey or at virtual town halls on Feb. 9, Feb. 12, and Feb. 17
