RCMP investigate homicide after senior found dead in residence

Comox Valley RCMP is investigating a homicide after an elderly woman was found dead in a residence Sunday morning.

Officers responded to a call at 5:40 a.m. on March 6 to a residence in the 1000-block of 26th Street. The call came after paramedics arrived for an 80-year-old woman in medical distress.

Police say they discovered what they believed to be a homicide.

A 55-year-old man, who is known to the victim, was arrested at the scene and is now in custody. He has been charged with second-degree murder.

Police are continuing their investigation Monday.

“Investigators are still in the area gathering evidence today and being assisted by the North Island Integrated Forensic Identification Section,” said Cst. Monika Terragni, Comox Valley RCMP media relations officer. “They will be diligently working on this to determine the series of events leading to this tragedy.”

Police say the incident is isolated and there is not an ongoing risk to the public.
