IIO investigating fatal incident in Campbell River

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of B.C. sent investigators to Campbell River after a fatal incident Saturday.

Police say they responded to a theft and weapon-related complaint at approximately 11:30 am.

The IIO says there were reports about shots fired by police during an altercation between a man believed to be involved in the complaint near the intersection of the 2100 block of North Island Highway at Park Road.

Emergency Health Services arrived at the scene, but the man was pronounced dead.

The cause of death has not been determined.

Th BC Coroners Service is also investigating.
