Investigation continues following threat against students at Courtenay school

Comox Valley RCMP continue to investigate following a threat made against students at George P. Vanier Secondary School in Courtenay.

RCMP say the serious threat was made Monday during an anonymous phone call with school staff at around 2:14 p.m.

Staff say they instantly implemented safety protocols and called police and the school was placed under a lockdown

Police remained on site while students were dismissed and said the early indication is that this was a swatting incident.

“Our investigation is now focused on the source of the call into the school and we have been working closely with the school district,” said Comox Valley RCMP Const. Monika Terragni.

“We recognize the impact of a call like this on students, staff and parents and are continuing to prioritize this investigation.”
