E-bike rider suffers serious injuries in Courtenay collision

Comox Valley RCMP are investigating after a collision shut down part of Ryan Road Monday morning.

Police were called to the crash at the intersection of Ryan Road and Highway 19A at 4:12 a.m.

RCMP believe an e-bike rider failed to stop at a red light and was hit by a silver sedan.

“Investigators are being assisted by Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Services,” said Comox Valley RCMP Cst. Monika Terragni. “The initial investigation suggests that speed and impairment may have contributed to this crash.”

RCMP didn’t specify which driver may have been impaired or speeding.

The driver of the sedan stayed at the scene after the collision.

Police say the e-bike rider was seriously injured and remains in hospital.
