Dashcam footage sought as investigation continues into fatal collision

Dashcam footage is being asked for as an investigation into a fatal collision continues.

The incident happened Tuesday afternoon at around 2:35 p.m. Cst. Monika Terragni, media relations officer with Comox Valley RCMP, says police were called to a Highway 19 on-ramp  off the Comox Valley Parkway, where a logging truck had lost a load of logs onto the road.

Police say when they got to the scene, they found a woman trapped inside a pickup truck and a man deceased under the fallen logs.

“It appears that the pickup truck had pulled over to the shoulder of the road and the man was standing outside when the logging truck came around the corner and lost its load causing logs to fall on the couple,” said  Terragni. “All of the emergency responders at the scene carefully worked together to extricate the woman from her truck before she was brought to hospital”.

BC Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the crash, and BC Coroners Service is investigating the death of the 43-year-old Lake Cowichan resident, according to police.

They are asking anyone who saw the crash, observed the vehicles before the crash, or has dashcam footage, to contact them at (250) 286-5646.
