2 Courtenay students receive Beedie Luminaries scholarships

Beedie Luminaries scholarships have been awarded to two students in Courtenay.

Loki and Cain Tipton are Grade 12 students at Georges P. Vanier Secondary School, and they both won the scholarship, which is worth up to $40,000.

Ryan Beedie and his foundation Beedie Luminaries are giving out $6.2 million in scholarships to 140 students and 17 single parents in the province.

The program helps students who have faced challenges with determination and show great academic potential and community involvement.

“Year after year, I am amazed and inspired by the sheer number of bright, driven and highly engaged students who apply to the Beedie Luminaries program and the promise that they show,” said Ryan Beedie. “I am elated to be able to extend our support to more students than ever before so that even more talented British Columbians can pursue higher education and reach their full potential.”

Recipients will also be given paid employment opportunities and will be able to work with mentors.
