North Courtenay Connector gets green light!

The North Courtenay Connector is moving forward.

That from BC Transportation Minister Todd Stone in the Comox Valley, announcing the 15-million dollar plus project will better connect Highway 19, the Inland Island Highway, and North Courtenay, providing enhanced access to key destinations in the region.

Stone says improvements include 700 metres of new two lane roadway running west from the intersection of Headquarters Road and Dove Creek Road, to the intersection of Piercy Road and Dove Creek Road.

The project will also include a new two-lane bridge across the Tsolum River after the old Dove Creek Bridge burned down many years ago, with a one lane Bailey style bridge put in place.

Stone says access for emergency services will be greatly improved with this project.

Courtenay Mayor Larry Jangula was on hand for the news conference…

At the Comox Valley Fairgrounds on Headquarters Road this afternoon, Stone says construction will start next year in 2016 and will be wrapped up in time for the opening of the new Comox Valley hospital in 2017.
