RCMP report 23 domestic violence cases and 6 reported sexual assault files in Courtenay in May

Comox Valley RCMP spent less time responding to calls in Courtenay in May compared with the same time last year.

The detachment received 27 fewer calls in the city in May of 2022 compared with May of 2021.

There were 11 break and enters, 23 reported domestic violence cases, six reported sexual assaults and 17 thefts from vehicles this past May.

May of 2021 saw 21 break and enters, 20 reported domestic violence cases, four reported sexual assaults and 25 thefts from vehicles.

The drug trafficking stats were the same with three files each month.

“We take these calls very seriously,” said Comox Valley RCMP Insp. Mike Kurvers. “It is important for us to receive these reports. We take files on a priority basis. Those reports add up to us solving the problem at the end of the day.”
