New swimming program coming to the Comox Valley in September

A new swimming lesson program is coming to the Comox Valley Regional District’s fall program.

It’s an addition to the Lifesaving Society’s leadership courses called the Lifesaving Society’s Swim for Life program. The district has been offering Lifesaving Society advanced leadership courses for over 40 years.

They say this program will be for anyone looking to learn to swim or even become a lifeguard through teaching appropriate water skills and lifesaving techniques.

This new program will replace the Canadian Red Cross’ swimming program which is being phased out in December so they can focus their efforts on other issues affecting the community. That includes disaster and pandemic response, opioid harm reduction, and caregiving for seniors.

The Red Cross is working with the district to ensure there is a smooth transition between the two programs.

The new one will launch this September, with registration opening on August 15th.
