Sayward RCMP rescue sailors

Two Sayward RCMP are credited with possibly saving the lives of two sailors, whose broken boat was being driven to the rocks by high winds recently.

It happened three miles north of Sayward in the Johnstone Strait.

Sgt. Richard Boyle and Constable Evan Hobbs set out to assist, feeling winds of 30 to 40 knots, changing tide and very rough 6 feet high seas.

After a very challenging thirty minute journey, Mounties located the stranded sailors and towed their broken vessel to the Sayward Wharf.

The sailors were two brothers from Anacortes, Washington and were sailing their vessel in the ‘Race to Alaska’ event.
