For many years the people of the Comox Valley have come together to celebrate the vibrant cultures and diversity of the First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples of Canada on National Aboriginal Day.
Everybody is invited to participate in Island Health’s Aboriginal Week.
Celebration events are going soon, leading up to National Aboriginal Day on June 21st.
In addition to activities in the Comox Valley, there will be events in areas like Port Hardy, Campbell River and the Cowichan Valley.
Now what exactly is Island Health’s Aboriginal Week?
Aboriginal employment program coordinator Steve Sxwithultxw goes into the details.
He adds there’s hundreds of jobs to be filled, and Island Health looks towards the aboriginal community to take those positions. Sxwithultxw touches on some of the events going on.
