Better high-speed internet connections are coming to Comox as construction on a subsea fibre optic cable wraps up.

The sites are a part of more than 26 landing sites where the fibre optic cables will come to shore. It is a part of the government’s plan to connect B.C. households to high-speed internet by 2027, including rural, remote and Indigenous communities.
The project gives service providers with necessary infrastructure to provide high-speed internet access to businesses and households.
Leonard says recent events have highlighted the importance of connectivity.
“The last few years have proven how important connectivity is for individuals, families, and businesses, and I am so glad that the Connected Coast network projects in Courtenay-Comox have been completed,” said Leonard. “This project creates solutions for communities and will ensure that residents can access stable and reliable internet, keeping them connected with the world.”
The Connected Coast project will cost around $45.4 million and will run 3,400 kilometres of subsea fibre-optic cable oolong the coast.
About 139 remote and coastal communities including 48 Indigenous communities will be able to get high-speed internet.
