Conservation Officer on the hunt for bears

Busy times for Steve Petrovic, Regional BC Conservation Officer, on the hunt for two bears in the area of North Island College and the Comox Valley Aquatic Centre, including several sightings in the Tamarack Drive area of Courtenay.

Petrovic says a large adult bear, and a juvenile bear have been spotted in the area.

Petrovic says unfortunately the bears have become habituated to the neighbourhood, with a steady source of food, accessed through residents carelessly leaving out food and garbage.

He says the bears cannot be relocated, and will ultimately have to be shot.

All residents in the area are being advised to be extremely cautious and not to leave out any food in their yard, and to carefully secure their garbage.
