CVRD launching emergency preparedness program

The Neighbourhood Emergency Preparedness Program will be launching soon through the Comox Valley Emergency Program.

The program has been designed in collaboration with the Town of Comox, City of Courtenay, Village of Cumberland, K’omoks First Nation and the Comox Valley Regional District.

The district says it is designed to give important tools, recommendations and guidance so residents can prepare for disasters.

It is also growing collaboration for FireSmart, Emergency Support Services, Emergency Radio Communications and household-level emergency preparedness.

Manager of emergency programs Howie Siemens says it will help the community work together in case of an emergency or disaster.

“The CVEP team and our partners have worked incredibly hard to reimagine the Neighbourhood Emergency Preparedness Program for Comox Valley residents who may experience hazards and emergency situations in their neighbourhoods,” said Siemens.

“The official launch of NEPP is an important step towards building a disaster-resilient Comox Valley that supports neighbours helping neighbours to prepare for and assist one another during extreme weather and other hazardous events.”

Residents are invited to attend a free information session this month, more information can be found on the CVRD website along with links to the emergency preparedness program guide and video.
