BC NDP to hold public forums on island rail service

The BC NDP is going to be holding two public forums on the future of the E&N railway.

The announcement follows more reports that plans to get passenger trains rolling again face another hurdle – the 15 million dollars committed by regional districts, the province and the feds may not be enough to make the track safe.

It’s been more than 4 years since passenger trains stopped running along the corridor…

But Nanaimo North Cowichan MLA Doug Routley says the idea is not only viable, but vital.

Routley will host a forum in Ladysmith July 8th.

Nanaimo MLA Leonard Krog will host the one in Nanaimo July 7th. At this point a Comox Valley forum has yet to be confirmed.
