Mount Washington to mostly open on Friday

The snow has come to the Island, but with just one night to go before Mount Washington plans to open, the mountain has few places with enough snow.

Mount Washington said in a Facebook post that while it has been snowing overnight, it will not be enough for the season to kick into gear just yet.

Limited beginner terrain will be available on Friday with the Easy Acres Zone carpets running from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The tube park will have one lane open for those looking to slide.

However, the resort says no chairlifts will be spinning on Friday and their opening day celebrations have been moved to Saturday.

With snow in the forecast, they are hoping to have the Whiskey Jack chair open soon and running on the Coaster section of the mountain.

As of Thursday, the mountain got 30 centimetres of snow in the last 24 hours, with a snow base of 57 centimetres.
