Following an announcement from the province, the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) will receive funding towards flood prevention.
According NDP MLA Ronna-Rae Leonard, the CVRD will get $129,850 for the Comox Road Flood Mitigation Process project.
The province says funding can be used for risk mapping, assessments and planning, land-use planning, equipment purchases, community education and small-scale structural projects. It is a part of $23.4 million from the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund.
Leonard says the funding will help the Comox Valley plan for future events for when problems occur.
“No one wants or expects to deal with natural disasters but investing in our infrastructure early means we can save time, money, and people, when problems arise,” said Leonard.
“This grant will help the Comox Valley plan and prepare for flooding disasters, to keep our community safe.”
Minister of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness Bowinn Ma says projects enabled by the funding will make a difference for First Nations and communities throughout B.C. to keep lives and livelihoods safe from potential disasters.
