Living wage and councilor absence this week’s agenda

Living wages and a councilor’s mandatory leave of absence will be a part of the City of Courtenay’s upcoming council meeting.

A report on Living Wage coming to council will discuss the ongoing high cost of living, the need for employees to earn a livable wage, as well as addressing a bylaw that favors businesses in the city that give their employees a sustainable wage.

Councillor David Frisch’s mandatory leave of absence that began on January 26th will also be discussed. Frisch is on leave under a section of the Community Charter which applies to a Council member who has been charged with an offense under the Criminal Code.

Bylaws on a new sewer fund financial plan, municipal solid waste, recyclables, and organics budget, and a water fund financial plan will be a part of the meeting.
