Controlled detonations scheduled to begin tomorrow in Comox Valley

Residents of the Comox Valley could be hearing controlled detonations, starting tomorrow.

It’s a part of Exercise TAZ Runner, an annual military exercise run and hosted by 19 Wing Comox at CFB Comox.

The purpose of this exercise is for the Royal Canadian Air Force’s (RCAF) explosive disposal flights to train for both the recovery and destruction of deteriorated, damaged, or obsolete ammunition.

According to 19 Wing, residents could see an increase in traffic around 19 Wing Comox, HMCS Quadra via Goose Spit, and Seal Bay Armoury.

The community may hear these detonations from Wednesday until Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with another round of them set between Sunday and next Wednesday, also from 8 in the morning till 5 in the afternoon.
