Stand with Ukraine ceremony to be held at Marina Park

Feb. 24 will mark one year since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began, and a candle lit vigil will be held at a local park.

Canadians from coast to coast are invited to join the commemoration with the Ukrainian Canadian Congress to stand with the country.

Congress national president Alexandra Chyczij says resilience in the conflict is inspiring to the world during the difficult time for the country.

“For the last year, the heroic Ukrainian Armed Forces and the Ukrainian people have stood united in defence of freedom in Europe athwart Russia’s genocidal onslaught. With their courage and determination, the Ukrainian people inspire the world,” said Chyczij.

“We will pay tribute to the courage of the Ukrainian people and honour the memory of the thousands of innocent people murdered by Russia’s genocidal war of aggression against Ukraine. May the memory of the victims be eternal.”

The Comox Valley will hold its vigil at the Comox Marina Park, organized by the Comox Valley Ukraine Foundation and the Comox Valley Ukrainian Cultural Society.

Local organizations are hoping to have dignitaries in attendance, and that will be confirmed later.
