New Recyling station launched by Return-It in Comox

Recycling will now be easier for Comox Residents, as Return-It Express & GO have launched a new type of recycling station in the town.

The new station gives residents access to a brand-new and easy way to recycle their empty beverage containers, where according to President and CEO of Return-It, Cindy Coutts, the stations are re-powered shipping containers.

“We have areas where it’s difficult to fight depots, or the populations’ very dense or farce,” says Coutts. “We put together these Express & GO locations, which are repurposed, solar-powered, shipping containers.”

Coutts says the stations fill a need across the province to help with recycling.

“We currently recycle 76% of all beverage containers on the market, which sounds fantastic, but what it means, is that 24% of beverage containers aren’t in the recycling stream,” adds Coutts. “Effectively, we’re going to try to increase that, by making it more accessible, so by putting these containers in convenient locations, we hope to get residents to recycle more.”

Residents can sign up for a free account with Return-It’s website, and they collect all of your used beverage containers in a clear bag up to 90 litres in size.

Once it’s full, you can put a label on it, and come and drop it off to the Express & GO Container, according to Coutts.

The new recycling station can be found at John’s Your Independent Grocer on Port Augusta Street.
