New deal between city of Courtenay and CUPE Local 556
CUPE local 556 and the city of Courtenay have reached a new agreement! The deal will last for the next 4 years, and feature benefits like 2 percent wage increases every year until 2018.
Courtenay mayor Larry Jangula says this covers quite a few workers.
Jangula says these agreements can take up to 2 years to negotiate, but this one went quite smoothly, with bargaining starting in March and completed at the beginning of June.
Jangula adds the deal covers a period of 4 years and goes until December 31st, 2018. The agreement applies to approximately 135 inside and outside workers, including full-time, part-time, casual, and summer students.
