New search and rescue facility request on the docket for Courtenay Council meeting

Courtenay council will hear a request this week for a new home for the Comox Valley Search and Rescue (CVSAR) team.

During its presentation to council, the team will be requesting a land allocation to support the building of a new and permanent home for future CVSAR operations, without cost.

Potential locations for the team’s home include the parcel of land on Grant Road, and Harmston Avenue, close to the Comox Valley Regional District’s office.

The team adds that they are the only search and rescue team on Vancouver Island paying annual rent for its base of operations, with every other Island team having its own land or facility given to them by its regional municipalities and districts.

The facility project will cost a total of $1.25 million, with $500,000 moved toward the building project, according to the rescue team.

The Council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday March 22nd, starting at 4 pm in Harmston Avenue, and residents can watch a live stream of the meeting on the City’s youtube channel.
