Canadian Forces search and rescue parachute training to start Monday

The sound of a Skyvan aircraft might be heard in the Comox Valley starting next week as parachute training begins at 19 Wing.

The Canadian Forces School of Search and Rescue will be doing training between May 1 and 17 along with technician parachute re-certification. Around 50 personnel will take part in the training, both from static and freefall jumps to various drop zones in the area.

Flights are supposed to take place for over three hours blocks between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, but that could change depending on weather and conflicts with the Snowbirds, according to 19 Wing.

Residents are welcome to watch, but you are asked to not approach any of the drop zones.
