Puntledge River flows on sharp decline

Drought like conditions are shattering 50 years of records over at BC Hydro, with record low flows on the Puntledge River.

Utility spokesperson Stephen Watson says the recent focus has been on summer season fisheries conservation but adds, this has definitely been a major challenge.

Watson says for both May and June, it has been a double whammy, with a record low snowpack, and the driest conditions ever seen for those two months.

Watson confirms the Comox Valley is now getting all hydro power from the undersea cables linking Vancouver Island to the Lower Mainland, after being forced to shut down their Puntledge River Hydro-Electric facility for the summer.
